There was a time in the 1970s and '80s that Minnesota was at the leading edge of the new music scene, with the new wave punk rock sound followed by the eponymous Minneapolis sound. One of the bands that put our state on the music map was The Suburbs, a new wave band that formed in the western suburbs of Minneapolis in 1977 (says Wikipedia). They released several songs that proved quite popular, including "Love is the Law" in 1984. That particular song was revived recently during the campaign to legalize gay marriage in Minnesota, an effort that achieved fruition just this month, when, on May 14, Governor Mark Dayton signed the new law.
While HandmadeMN does not take a position on matters of political and religious controversy, of course, Minnesota artists on Etsy and elsewhere certainly celebrate love and marriage in many ways. The following collection offers a sampling of those fine handmade goods.
