Minnesota Hot Dish

Today’s recipe is from HandmadeMN member Mary Foster from Mary Foster Creative.

“This was my grandmother's recipe. She always had a tin full of various cookies on the kitchen counter when we visited her. Grandma is long gone but this ginger cookie recipe continues to be a family favorite” Mary says.

Ginger Cookies

3/4 c. shortening
1c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/4 c. molasses
2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 rounded tsp. ground ginger

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add well-beaten egg and molasses.
Mix soda, salt and spices with sifted flour.
Combine with first mixture.
Roll into 1-inch balls and dip in sugar.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for about 12 minutes.
