Check out these great, one-of-a-kind, walking sticks on Etsy's Bearpawrustics shop--a favorite of Minnesota etsian, starsaponthars's. I think they would make a great Fathers Day gift for the avid walker, or one who needs a little encouragement!
Bearpawrustic's walking sticks are made in Maine; however, Minnesota has some great trails, many are even in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area. There are a few books out there that would make a great combination gift with the walking stick. The two listed below are a couple ideas:
Minnesota Running Trails: Dirt, Gravel, Rocks, and Roots by Kate Havelin
Hiking Minnesota II by Mary Jo Mosher
You can also find maps and distances online that you could print out yourself:
For national maps, Trails.com is a wonderful resource.
Joining a non-competitive Twin Cities' Volksmarch is another great way to get out and walk with others. In German, "volksmarch" means "a people's" walk. There are Volkssporting clubs located throughout the U.S.. The American Volkssport Association, founded in 1976, is a educational non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting non-competitive physical fitness, friendship, and fun through volkssporting events.
